I wouldn't waste time on CNN viewers calling everything racist. My son tells me all the time, 'Let the lab mice pull their handles'

If you think that this game has anything to do with racism you are so ignorant of history that it’s frightening. The Civil War was the most important event in US History, other than the Declaration of Independence. If you think it’s racist then play as a Confederate and allow yourself to be slaughtered by the Union.

Let me say upfront i 'm not a resident of US -therefore, i was blown away when i've noticed the games i used to play and made my childhood so happy are still here! I'm so thrilled to be able to keep playing this kind of games, and in same way i'm sad the devs don't exist & release anymore such awesome and cool stuff ,'cause it would exceed by a mile what is on market today (no need for comparison) - also i'm a lover of history and makes me sad,to see US peeps fight over a cool game which brings fun above all ,doesn't matter it's parties or content. i love US history and every new stuff makes my heart full of joy,in a world in such mess and chaos- happy holidays to all .Please don't let '90 games to die .

The Civil War was not only about slaves. It was also that the south wanted to govern themselves, they cared more about states rights.

My father loved this game. We had it for our old PC and he would play it every day. I remember the graphics and the music vividly. It didn't play eventually when we upgraded and he was so sad he couldn't play it. Kept an old PC in the basement just to run it. Eventually that stopped working. Years passed and somehow he found it again, probably an emulator or somehow updated to run on newer windows systems. And he was SO HAPPY to have his old game back! So on a whim, I looked it up.. watched a few videos.. and started really missing my Dad. So thanks for sending me down a bitter sweet memory lane! This game is a valuable teaching tool, and full of history. Please give it a shot!

No, this game is not racist. Modern wargames are not racist for letting you play as the terrorists. American Revolutionary War games are not anti-American if they let you play as the British. Robert E. Lee Civil War General is an excellent Civil War simulation game, and if this game couldn't come out today, then 1996 was right and 2018 is wrong

I wouldn't say that it's racist, but it certainly wouldn't fly today. We have a much different social/political climate than we did in 1996. If a publisher released this game today it would certainly be dubious. I would certainly question the motivations of a company if they released this today. This game probably was made with historical intentions in mind, but in 2018, we don't honor those who fought for rights to own slaves by celebrating their victories in battle.

You are an idiot if you think the game is racist. Historical battles and Generals.. ect. No politics, no metion of slavery and you can play for the north or south. Try again race baiter, not all people just blindly believe what other people (Rando and WOW) spew out. Especially on the internet.

A great game that will still work on Windows 10 as long as you have wing32.dll in windowsSysWOW64. The game needs this as it uses WinG (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/WinG) instead of DirectX, and recent Windows installations don't include WinG.

You are seriously going to call this racist because of a confederate soldier and flag? Christ you losers need to get a grip.

Has anyone gotten this to work on windows 10? Been trying for a few days to get it running. Keeps saying the WING32.dll file does not exist even though it is in an adjacent folder. Tried downloading from old-games and still no luck. Any advice would be awesome

How is the game racist, because it has a Confederate soldier or flag in it? It was part of history...get over it.

w0w, can you explain how this game is racist? Other than the name and the historical context? Where in the videos or the gameplay? No, the designers did an amazing job making this tactical turn-based strategy game. It's still one of my favorite games.
If you disagree then play the Union. :)
